Subject matter expert panel - SmartLabel database project
The Entomological Society of America (ESA) has partnered with the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Office of Pesticide Programs (OPP) to update and enhance EPA-OPP’s SmartLabel database of pests found on pesticide labels. The database contains an estimated 7,000 arthropod pest species which need to be standardized. The work will be performed by a contractor whose work will be managed by ESA staff and overseen by a panel of subject matter experts (SME) who will serve as unpaid advisors to the contractor. Taxonomic experts are sought to serve on the SME panel for each of the primary orders of arthropods likely to be found on pesticide labels, including (but not limited to) Acari, Araneae, Blattodea (including Isoptera), Coleoptera, Diptera, Hemiptera, Hymenoptera, Lepidoptera, Orthoptera, and Thysanoptera. The workload for the panel will be monthly phone conferences with ESA staff and the contractor in addition to periodic email communication. No travel is required to serve on the panel. Applicants should be knowledgeable about one or more of the arthropod orders cited above. To be considered to serve on the expert panel, please apply on this web form. The application period will close on July 7, 2017.
