Submit a Manuscript

Detailed instructions for authors for ESA's subscription journals, open access journals, American Entomologist magazine, and Thomas Say books are available. Use the links below to access the instructions for authors for the publications of interest to you.

For authors familiar with the ESA Style Guide previously hosted on ESA's website, the information from the style guide is now available through the instructions for authors listed below.

Where to Submit

Articles for ESA's journals should be submitted electronically using the ESA web-based manuscript submission system, ScholarOne. Submit new manuscripts to our journals using the following links:

All authors using ScholarOne are required to set up an account by filling in their contact information and determining their user name and password. Once a paper is submitted through the system, the author can log on subsequently and see the status of his or her manuscript.

Articles for ESA's magazine American Entomologist should be submitted via the American Entomologist Submission Form. Proposals for Thomas Say Books should be submitted via email to pubs@entsoc.org. More information on Thomas Say can be found in the Thomas Say instructions for authors.

Promote Your Work

If your paper is accepted, consider how you might promote your research upon publication. See this brief guide, “How to Promote Your Published Paper,” for ideas. If your institution plans to promote your research via a press release, blog, or news article, let us know at pubs@entsoc.org, and ESA communications staff can help expand your reach. Or, consider contributing a guest article to ESA’s blog, Entomology Today.

English-Language Editing

If you wish to have your manuscript undergo professional English editing prior to submission, ESA has a partnership with Charlesworth Author Services that provides ESA authors with a 10% discount on their editing services. To receive this discount, use this link: https://cwauthors.com?rcode=Entomol

Please note that authors are not required to use Charlesworth Author Services; if authors wish to receive English editing, they should select the English editing service that is appropriate for their particular needs.
