Award:
Registration fee (which includes hotel reservations for two nights, meals, and bus transportation to tour locations) will be provided to one Student and one Early Career Professional (ECP) member. Winners will also be awarded the cost of airfare to North Dakota not to exceed $500. The two awardees will be strongly encouraged to provide a five-minute presentation on the Field Tour during the P-IE Networking and Business Session taking place during Entomology 2018 in Vancouver, Canada. The presentation should address what the awardee learned on the tour and the projected impact on their career.
Eligibility:
Any Student or ECP that is a current ESA and P-IE Section member at the time of application. Student applicants must be currently registered as a Student Member with ESA. ECP applicants must be registered as either Student Transition or Early Career Members with ESA. For clarification on membership categories, please see ESA's membership category descriptions. Applicants must indicate on the application form whether they would like to be considered for the award.
Evaluation Criteria:
Candidates will be judged using the following criteria and based upon the responses in the application form for a total of 40 points:
- Current role, research interest, and/or stakeholders represented align to P-IE disciplinary areas (10 points)
- Knowledge gained from attending the Field Tour can be applied to a problem in their current role or stakeholders with whom they work (10 points)
- Uniqueness in perspectives and technical knowledge they would bring to the Field Tour (10 points)
- Overall enthusiasm in attending the Field Tour with a compelling response on the value the tour would bring to the applicant (10 points)
Deadline:
Applicants vying for the Student or ECP award will submit Field Tour application by June 15, 2018.
Judging:
The P-IE Governing Council and Field Tour Organizers will serve as the selection committee.
Announcement:
Winners will be announced at the same time all other P-IE member applicants are selected to attend the Field Tour, by June 30, 2018. Upon announcement of being selected to attend the Field Tour, the applicant would also receive notification within the same communication that their registration and cost of airfare, not to exceed $500, has been awarded.
