Join us for an insightful webinar on the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the fields of sustainable insecticide discovery and entomology, with a special focus on its potential applications in Physiology, Biochemistry, and Toxicology (PBT) research. Our expert speakers will delve into how AI accelerates the discovery of sustainable insecticides, complements traditional methods, and fosters cross-disciplinary collaborations. Additionally, learn about the revolutionary impact of AI on insect research, genomics, and the importance of collaboration between entomologists, AI experts, and data scientists. Don't miss this opportunity to explore cutting-edge advancements and their practical applications in integrated pest management.

Moderator: Tina Lozano, Ana Cabrera

Panelists: Edel Perez Lopez, Yannick Djoumbou Feunang, PhD

Edel Pérez López is an Associate Professor of Plant Pathology and the Canada Research Chair in Insect Vector Invasions and Emerging Plant Diseases at Université Laval’s Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Havana, Cuba, and a Ph.D. in Ecology and Biotechnology from the Universidad Veracruzana, Mexico, he developed a research program focused on sustainable crop protection. His group investigates the biology and ecology of insect vectors of plant diseases and biotrophic pathogens affecting intensive crop systems, integrating cutting-edge approaches such as genomics and modeling. With over 80 scientific publications, he is recognized for his significant contributions to understanding crop pathogens and their insect vectors.
Dr. Yannick Djoumbou Feunang earned his PhD in Microbiology and Biotechnology from the University of Alberta, Canada, where his research focused on developing Cheminformatics capabilities to enhance metabolomics. Examples of notable scientific contributions include, among others, ClassyFire (800+ citations), and BioTransformer (400 citations). Dr. Djoumbou Feunang is currently a Senior Data Scientist - Molecular AI/ML and Cheminformatics - at Corteva Agriscience. He leads several projects in the fields of metabolomics, predictive modeling, and generative artificial intelligence, applied towards the discovery and development of sustainable crop protection agents. His most recent publication describes how Cheminformatics and AI enhance crop protection discovery. See Djoumbou-Feunang et al. (2023).
