Flexible Publishing Options for Entomology Research
ESA's journals offer a range of publishing models designed to maximize the visibility and impact of entomological research. Whether you're publishing in a traditional or open-access journal, ESA and Oxford University Press provide a variety of discounts, waivers, and institutional agreements to help make publishing more accessible.
Key Benefits for Authors
- ESA members receive a 20% discount on open-access publication fees.
- Members without publication funding may apply for a standard publication waiver for one article annually1.
- There is no charge to publish Letters to the Editor, Editorials, or Student Debates.
- Standard publication charges may be discounted or waived depending on the corresponding author's geographic location.
- Many institutions participate in Oxford University Press Read and Publish agreements that may cover open-access publishing costs.
Open Access Publishing Support
Oxford University Press (OUP) has a growing number of "Read and Publish" agreements with institutions and consortia that provide funding for open-access publishing. Authors from participating institutions can publish open access, and the institution may pay the charge. Find out if your institution has a "Read and Publish" agreement with OUP.
Oxford University Press automatically waives or discounts article processing charges (APCs) in fully open-access journals for eligible authors as part of its developing countries waiver policy. ESA's fully open-access journals are: Journal of Insect Science, Arthropod Management Tests, and Journal of Integrated Pest Management. See if you qualify for an APC waiver or discount: Developing Countries APC Waiver Policy.

4For authors of papers submitted before September 1, 2025: Prior to the flat-fee pricing structure, these journals applied page charges of $142 per page for nonmembers and $95 per-page for members. The new flat fee for standard publication will apply to all papers submitted September 1 or later, as they are likely to be published in 2026. For authors who submitted prior to September 1 but whose article will publish in a 2026 issue, we are pleased to apply the new fee structure as a courtesy. While this will benefit the majority of authors, authors who wish to opt out and pay the page charge fee instead should contact the ESA editorial office at pubs@entsoc.org.
