Incoming MUVE Representative to the Annals of the ESA Editorial Board

Dr. Shaun Dergousoff is currently a research scientist with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada in Lethbridge, Alberta. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Saskatchewan in 2011. There he worked in the laboratory of Dr. Neil Chilton, examining fundamental questions relating to the ixodid ticks, Dermacentor variabilis and D. andersoni, and the bacteria (both pathogenic and endosymbionts) they harbor. Since 2007 he has published on using PCR markers for tick species differentiation, prevalence of Rickettsia, Anaplasma and Franciscella in Canadian ticks, tick range expansions, and tick paralysis. He also has published on the latitudinal distribution of the principal North American bluetongue virus vector, Culicoides sonorensis in Alberta, where there is interest in potential range expansion of bluetongue and its vectors into Canada. These studies have been published in J. Med. Entomol., J. Parasitol., Exp. And Appl. Acarology, Vet. Microbiology, J. Wildl. Dis., Canad. Entomol. and other journals. He is broadly interested in Dermacentor spp. and other arthropods as vectors of livestock disease agents, their biology and ecology, and arthropod-microorganism interactions. He is involved in outreach via Twitter on topics related to ticks and biting flies of livestock, pets and people. He is very interested in engaging in ESA and participating in its functions.
