This webinar will guide students and early-career professionals through the process of writing and publishing scientific research papers. Participants will learn how to structure a manuscript, present data effectively, select appropriate journals, and navigate the peer-review process. The session will provide practical tips to improve scientific writing and increase the likelihood of publication success.

![]() | Dr. Rob Morrison is currently a Research Entomologist for the USDA-ARS Center for Grain and Animal Health Research in Manhattan, KS, where his current research program involves elucidating the behavioral ecology, chemical ecology, and improving the IPM of stored product insects. He has served in this position for nine years, and manages a lab staff of 11, including two Ph.D. students, one M.S. student, and four postdocs. The overarching goal of his research program is to develop behaviorally-based management programs for insects after harvest. Dr. Morrison graduated with his B.A. in biology from Kalamazoo College in Michigan in 2006, then with his M.S. in ecology and evolution from the University of Munich in Germany in 2009. In 2014, Rob received his Ph.D. from the Department of Entomology at Michigan State University researching the behavior, chemical ecology and IPM of the asparagus miner. From 2014–2016, Rob was a post-doctoral researcher at the USDA-ARS Appalachian Fruit Research Station, where he helped lay the foundation for an attract-and-kill program for the brown marmorated stink bug in apple orchards. He has published 160+ peer-reviewed publications, obtained over $13 million in extramural funding, and his students and he have given 300+ presentations in 45+ US States and 12 countries. |
![]() | Dr. J.P. Michaud is Professor of Entomology Emeritus at the Kansas State University, Agricultural Research Center-Hays, where he has worked to develop sustainable pest management strategies for economically important pests in central Kansas. Conservation biological control is considered to be the foundation of all IPM programs for pests affecting low value field crops. Other pest control tactics include elements of cultural control, host plant resistance, and the careful use of selective insecticides. His research interests have included the ecology and behavior of predators and parasitoids, aphid-plant interactions, and non-target effects of pesticides. The Coccinellidae have been a particular focus of study, as lady beetles are among the most important biological control agents of aphids and other cereal pests in the region. |
![]() | Dr. Cynthia Lord is an associate professor at the University of Florida. Her research focuses on the population dynamics of vectors and vector-borne disease systems. She has been a member of ESA since 1989 and has frequently attended the ESA Annual Meeting. She received a B.S. in zoology from the University of Vermont and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Princeton University. After postdoctoral research at the University of Notre Dame and Oxford University, she joined the Florida Medical Entomology Laboratory at UF. Cynthia Lord has been an ESA member since 1989, in MUVE (formerly section D). She has participated in ESA during much of that time, first by serving on the Ethics Committee from 2004 to 2006 and on the MUVE nominating committee from 2010 to 2019 (as chair in 2019). She frequently attends and participates in Section and Society business meetings at the Annual Meeting. In addition, she has served as a judge for the student paper or poster competition multiple times and has organized and moderated symposia for the Annual Meeting. She currently serves as the MUVE Section Representative to the ESA Publications Council. |
